Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad said, Today, that he will not accept salaries from the football governing body…But how much does the CAF President get really?

The debacle of disclosing figures in the public domain and particularly in Africa is a menace, true.

Cameroonian, Issa Hayatou reigned as the supremo of CAF – or so his conquerors claim – but what ever secrecy his 20 some years was shrouded in, it’s best to think no one will ever find out the true figures the body paid him , scratch that, he paid himself.

On the other hand though, Ahmad’s news comes as a refreshing thought for some, and so he has once again warmed himself to the hard hearts of millions of D’ Thomases.
The 57-year-old held his first senior Caf meetings on Monday ahead of the Fifa Congress on Thursday 11 May.

The former Malagasy Deputy Senate President told BBC in an interview that: “I’ve refused a CAF salary for the simple reason it doesn’t respect good administration.”

“The salaries of all Caf employees, from administrators to the executive committee and president, all have to be transparent.”

Just to add here, Sepp Blatter was paid a £2.6m package in 2015, the first for which Fifa had disclosed the salary paid to its president and secretary general.

Football’s world governing body published the figure in its accounts for 2015, which showed that a year of unprecedented corruption scandals had led to it losing $122m (£84m) per David Conn [The Guardian].

So perhaps Ahmad’s promise of transparency will be a fully documented dossier on how Caf’s monies were expended by the “Tyrant Hayatou” and his cronies… Oh wait, Did Ahmad not serve in that Council?
