Watford manager Javi Gracia has lashed out at Isaac Success and other Watford forwards for not crowning their terrific attacking display with goals, as they bowed to Newcastle.
Watford played good football and were dominance for the most part of the game but complacency in front of goal came back to hunt them as Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United who has been without a for a long time took all three points.
Watford were let down by the poor finish as Isaac Success, Stefano Okaka, Roberto Pereyra and Gerrard Deulofeo all missed good chances to put the Hornets in front and probably killed the game before Newcastle’s Spanish forward Ayoze Perez headed the winner to serve Gracia’s men a bitter defeat.
“If you do not score and kill the game when you have the chance to do something like today can happen,” Gracia told the Watford Observer.
“If you ask me about the game or the result, I can be disappointed with the result because I think we have done many things well, but I can’t be disappointed with the way my team played.”
“We can speak about how many players had a good chance to score; Stefano Okaka, Roberto Pereyra hit the crossbar, Adrian Mariappa, Isaac Success, a lot of players had clear chances.”
“We dominated the first half. Creating the chances we have today when playing away against Newcastle is not easy. We now need to be demanding and improve.”
“I think all of the players have played well and we knew if we left space players like Shelvey would be able to create from the beginning,” he said.
“We needed the strikers to have a good balance for the rest of the team and help us defend well. During the game, I am demanding of them and I am frustrated with the result but not the way we played.”
Watford travels to Southampton on Saturday and will be hoping to improve on their position. They stay eighth on the log with 19 points from 11 games will.
