Former Ghana International, Sulley Muntari walked off during Pescara’s Serie A game against Cagliari to protest against racist chants emanating from the stands.

Muntari confronted the referee and asked him to stop the game after hearing the abuse, but his request was declined and he received a yellow card.

The 32-year-old left the field at Stadio Sant’Elia, leaving Pescara with ten men with Cagliari winning 1-0.

Despite the referee opting against speaking to the stadium manager, fans were asked via a megaphone to stop their racist chanting.

It is not the first time that Cagliari have been embroiled in racism incidents.

In 2010, their game against Inter was stopped for a number of minutes after racist abuse was aimed at Samuel Eto’o.
