Dr. Rafiu Ladipo has been elected President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBofC) after elections were held on Sunday at the Brai Ayenote Gymnasium in Lagos.

Three candidates initially stood for the exalted seat of President of the NBBofC but, Dr. Godwin Kalu pulled out of the race citing “health concerns”, leaving Dr Ladipo and Ademola Omotosho to run for the polls.

Speaking with brila.net after the election, Dr. Ladipo said, ‘ I have been a member of the NBB of C for 14 years and so I’m aware that Boxing is suffering in Nigeria.

‘ My plan is to ensure we run an all inclusive board, where administrators, Our Boxing Coaches and the Boxers themselves know their stakes.’

Ladipo vowed to revive the ‘glory of Boxing’ again in Nigeria by bridging the gap with international governing bodies and ‘playing the politics involved in the sport.’

He declared that Coaches and Boxers will get their due reward for efforts made to promote Boxing in Nigeria.
