With just 52 days to Nigeria’s World Cup opener against Australia in the FIBA Women’s World Cup, the Nigeria Basketball Federation [NBBF] sacked Head Coach of the team, Sam Vincent citing the handler’s “unprofessional attitude” to the job.
The 2017 Women’s Afrobasket champions commenced camping for the tournament last month, but the Head Coach had only been physically present for Five days since.
In the sack letter; signed by President Ahmadu Musa Kida, and made available to Brila.net, Sam Vincent “preferred to be a phone and watsapp coach” [sic].
Vincent who has previously led Nigeria to the 2004 Olympic Games, also won the 2005 and 2017 FIBA African Basketball Championship.
The 55-year-old, who was Dallas Maverick assistant Coach in 2006-07, was sacked on Thursday and his assistant, Joseph Katuka is also expected to leave the team.
In the meantime, D’Tigress assistant coach, Peter Ahmedu will take charge of team’s preparation for the World Cup to be assisted by Sola Shomala until a new coach is appointed.
