It’s been a year since Mikel Obi left Chelsea; after an 11-year trophy-ladened career at Stamford Bridge, where the Nigeria International etched his name in gold in the club’s history.
Mikel made 374 appearances – the rarest of goalscorers netted 6 goals – and won virtually everything available at club level with the Blues; he was part of the club’s most successful era.
Today, the premier league side celebrated the Nigerian International, who was signed on this day [19 July] 12 years ago, with a video of his time at Chelsea social media and also available on their app.

He signed from Lyn Oslo – not without drama after a protracted, tripartite, case that involved Manchester United – for £16 million.
The midfielder, who captained Nigeria to the World Cup in Russia, won Two premier league titles, three FA Cup triumps, a League Cup capped with both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League between 2006 and 2017.
