It has emerged Nigeria was first contacted by FIBA Africa to replace Congo as host of the 2017 Afrobasket Championship after the Central African country opted out last Month.
According to FIBA Africa Zone 3 President, retd Col. Sam Ahmedu, Nigeria missed out on being named as host because the Country does not have a standard Arena or facilities considered befitting enough for the championship.
Nigeria have never hosted the Afrobasket and Ahmedu insists the fault lies with a ‘clueless federation’.
He accused the NBBF officials of reaping off the Sport for the ‘estacodes’ available during international events.
Last week, rising from its congress in Mali, FIBA Africa announced that Angola will host the 29th edition of the championship which tips off in August.
