7-time NPFL champions, Enyimba FC have secured a place in the 2017/18 CAF Confederation Cup group stages following a goalless second-leg against Bidvest Wits to see them advance 1-1 on aggregate.
A first-leg away goal advantage, coupled with Wednesday’s result in Calabar ensured that Paul Aigbogun’s men will join 15 other teams in the round robin stage of the competition.
Enyimba’s last appearance on the continent was in the 2016 Champions League, where the two-time winners failed to progress beyond the group stages.
Enyimba, who are Nigeria’s most successful club, will be making only their second appearance in the second tier of Africa’s club competition.
The Aba Elephants will find out their group stage opponents on 21st April when the Confederation Cup draw will be held.
Meanwhile, Akwa United were denied a place in the group stage by Al-Hilal despite a 3-3 aggregate result.
The second-leg in Uyo ended 3-1, but the Sudanese side advance on away-goal rule having won the first-leg 2-0 in Omdurman.
