[dropcap]E[/dropcap]nglish Premier League side, Newcastle United have reportedly lined KAA Gent winger, Moses Simon up for a summer swoop according to reports in Belgium.
The Magpies have had success recruiting from Belgium before – both Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba were signed from that nation – and their contacts on the Continent remain strong.
According to Belgian outlet HLN, Newcastle sent scouts to watch Simon during Nigeria’s 2-0 friendly defeat to Serbia last month.
It is claimed that representatives from Newcastle’s recruitment team were also present in Gent’s 2-0 victory over Anderlecht at the weekend.
Simon, a 22-year-old left-winger, is renowned for his pace and his attacking ability and has been scouted heavily by a number of Premier League clubs in recent years – with Brighton and Hove Albion among the top-flight teams who tried to sign the winger last summer.
Rafa Benitez has instructed his recruitment team to find upgrades in every single position ahead of the summer, but attacking reinforcements are understood to be a priority.
Simon is likely to be one of a number of potential targets being assessed at this stage.
However, Newcastle did sign goalkeeper Matz Sels from Gent two summers ago and their relationship with the Jupiler League outfit remains positive.
