Cristiano Ronaldo has scored the 50th hat trick of his career, and in doing so, he extended an impressive Spanish La Liga record over his long-standing Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo scored four times in his side’s 6-3 goal bonanza over Girona on Sunday, taking his total tally for the current campaign to 37 goals.
The current World Footballer of the year has now scored an incredible 21 goals in his last 11 appearances in all competitions, and his hat-trick against Girona was already the 50th of his career overall for club and country.
The 33-year-old Portuguese has now scored 34 hat tricks in LaLiga, extending his own competition record over Messi, who has scored 27 trebles in Spain’s top flight.
Following Real’s 6-3 win and Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Villarreal, Los Blancos now sit just four points behind the Rojiblancos in the La Liga standings, while FC Barcelona moved 11 points clear at the top.
