MFM FC 2-1 MC Alger: We came out Motivated – Onuwa

MFM FC maintained the win record at home in the CAF Champions League following their 2-1 win in the first-leg, first round match against MC Alger at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday.

A late winner – and a screamer – from midfielder, Monsuru Bashiru restored MFM’s advantage with the scoreline poised at 1-1 in the dying minutes of regulation time.

The hosts took the lead in the first half from the penalty spot through Akuneto Chijoke on 36 minutes but in the second half, the one-tme CAF Champions League winners responded.

Amachi Aziovez breached Egbe Ospino in goal for the Olukoya boys to bring them level pegging and hand Bernard Casoni’s men a massive advantage heading into the second leg.

Just when it seemed the game was heading for a draw, Bashiru struck letting loose a thunderbolt of a shot to restore MFM FC’s lead.

The CAF Champions League debutants will travel to Algeria with just a slight edge, but must either win or get a draw to keep any hope of progressing alive; a feat midfielder Chukwuka Onuwa said is possible.

He told Brila.net that, ” We came out with a strong motivation; motivated by the Chairman, the Lagos Governor and the support from the fans.

“We know the second leg will be a tougher test, but we want to go to Algeria and get a good result – draw or victory. Despite conceding a goal here, as a team we know we can go there get a result to,” he concluded.
