Gbenga Ogunbote and Enugu Rangers picked up their first win of the NPFL season on Sunday after a hard fought 1-0 victory away to Oriental rivals Heartland in Owerri.
Bright Silas struck the game’s only goal in the 10th minute and Heartland fluffed the chance to level from spot in the first half.
It was the Flying Antelopes’s first win against the Naze Millionaires; on the road, since 2016 and Ogunbote would relish it.
The former Enyimba Coach took the reins in Enugu after successfully guiding the former back to a continent club competition, but did not hit the ground running at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
Back to back defeats to Akwa united (away) and Lobi Stars (home) in the opening games of the season cast a dark cloud over his future in Enugu but club chief Christian Chukwu was quick to back the new Coach.
No doubt, Sunday’s victory would bring a huge sigh of relief for 2016 NPFL champions after a busy transfer window and pre season camping.
However, the win only moves them plays above the relegation zone after three matches.
