El-Kanemi Warriors Coach Imama Amapakabo has made a bold claim about the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), insisting it is the toughest in Africa because any of the 20 teams competing at any time can win the title.
Amapakabo won the league title in 2016 with Enugu Rangers – 32 years after the club last won it – and he believes his current team can do the same in the new season.
Speaking with Babafemi Raji on Brila FM’s footballlive show on Saturday, the Coach argued that leagues where the title are a battle between two or four teams can’t be regarded as “strong”.
‘I believe the NPFL is the strongest league and even the most competitive if you come to think of it. Any of the twenty clubs can win the league in Nigeria as long as things are done right.
‘Leagues where you have a two, four or six horse race for the title cannot be compared to the NPFL.
‘And for my team, we’ve made some transfers this season in view of the project we’re building. We’ve bought players who can adapt to my playing style and I believe we have the title within our sights,’ He explained.
