Former Super Eagles Coach, Christian Chukwu has described yesterday’s sanction on the Nations football by FIFA as a bad and has exonerated the Technical committee of blames.
In a telephone interview with Brila.net, Coach Christian Chukwu exonerated the technical committee of any form of complicity in the administrative lapse, putting the whole issue on the General Secretary.
In the aftermath of the FIFA sanction on Nigeria after Shehu Abdullahi, an ineligible player was fielded in the final Russia 2018 qualifiers against Algeria.
The former coach and member of the NFF technical committee further pointed fingers at the immediate assistants of the manager and Coach Gernot Rohr himself for failing to delegate the task of getting updated on the statistics of the Red and Yellow card status of players.
The NFF, however, have responded to the sanction through the President of the body, Amaju Pinnick.
The match is declared to be forfeited and awarded 3-0 in favour of Algeria, with the NFF also receiving a fine of CHF 6,000.
The sanction relates to the player Abdullahi Shehu failing to serve the automatic one-match suspension imposed on him as a result of receiving a caution in two separate matches of the same competition.
This sanction bears no impact on the final result of the preliminary competition for the FIFA World Cup since Nigeria had already qualified (and Algeria eliminated) before the match took place.
