Ex Eagles Goalie wants Nigeria world cup win against Argentina

Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu is hopeful Nigeria will get one over Argentina in a world cup match when the countries clash in the final Group D game at next summer’s tournament.

Nigeria was drawn against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland in group D as the Super Eagles make their sixth world cup appearance.

Historically, both teams have clashed at four editions of the tournament since 1994; including 2002 where Shorunmu was between the sticks for the Eagles.

However, Nigeria have suffered defeats in all four meetings with the two-time world champions.

Speaking on the draw done on Friday, Shorunmu, who was also the Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer at the 2014 World Cup told Yinka Oyedele [Brila FM] that he hopes the Eagles eventually get the better of the South American side in Russia.

“We might be lucky against Argentina this time around. The first two games are important. We must try to get results against Croatia and Iceland which will determine how we approach the final match against Argentina.”

Nigeria face Argentina on June 26 at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.
