How we Motivated Uzoho – Alloy Agu

Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer, Alloy Agu has revealed how he motivated one of the youngest goalkeeper to earn an international cap for Nigeria.

Faced with a goalkeeping headache after the unavailability of first choice Carl Ikeme (sick), the lack of public trust in his deputy Ikechukwu Ezenwa and the stuttering Daniel Akpeyi, the Super Eagles selectors moved desperately to invite the Deportivo de La Coruña B goalie Francis Uzoho.

On Tuesday, 19-year-old Uzoho was a second half sub in the international friendly against Argentina.

With Nigeria trailing 2-1, the goalkeeper not disappoint on his debut.

Nigeria eventually won 4-2 and Uzoho impacted the game, organizing the defence, restoring some confidence in the back line and even provided a major save to keep out the Albiceleste.

After the team’s arrival from Krasnodar on Thursday, Agu spoke with Anthony Bekederemo and revealed how the youngster was motivated as he replace Akpeyi after the break.

“We told him to go out and organize the defence, Communicate with the players and ensure he participates.

“Essentially, we told the young man to go out and represent well, do it for his name and family. He needed encouragement, so we told him that everybody was looking up to him at that point.”
