Turkey-based defender Kenneth Omeruo has been handed a late Super Eagles call-up following a spate of withdrawals caused by injuries, brila.net can confirm.
Ogenyi Onazi, Elderson Echiejile, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Moses Simon are injured and have all pull out of the Super Eagles forthcoming matches, which is why players like Omeruo on the standby list are being called up, officials disclosed.
A source close to Kenneth Omeruo has confirmed that Coach Gernot Rohr has called and asked him to join the Eagles squad in Casablanca, Morocco, where the team is training ahead of a final 2018 World Cup qualifier in Algeria on Friday.
The Eagles will also take on Argentina four days later in a friendly in Russia.
“Kenneth Omeruo said he has been called up by the coach because of injuries to some of the players,” the source said.
The central defender was last involved with the national team in June when he was an unused substitute in an AFCON 2019 qualifier against South Africa in Uyo.
The Kasimpasa ace Kenneth was placed on standby for the matches against Algeria and Argentina.
