Udeze backs teenage Deportivo Goalkeeper Uzoho for Super Eagles call up

Former Super Eagles defender believes Francis Uzoho has enough quality to compete for a place in the World Cup-bound squad if given a chance, brila.net reports.

Teenage goalkeeper Uzoho made an impressive debut for Deportivo La Coruna, keeping a clean sheet in his debut’s 0-0 draw at Eibar and Udeze believes with a bit of consistency he could become a top goalkeeper for club and country.

Ifeanyi Udeze, who came through the ranks in U17 before making his debut for the Super Eagles told brila.net that Nigeria currently does not have a young goalkeeper in the ranks doing so well for his club. And an opportunity for Uzoho could be a fantastic way to securing the future of the squad.

Francis Uzoho made his second appearance for Deportivo La Coruna yesterday but fell to goals from Aday Girona and Cristian Portu which handed the 18-year-old Nigerian shot-stopper his first defeat in the Spanish top flight.

Uzoho was beaten from the penalty spot by Aday Girona after Raul Albenetosa fouled Kayode in the box in the 25th minute of the encounter.

Two minutes later, Uzoho put his side under pressure with a poor clearance but his teammate Emre Colak came to his rescue.

The former Golden Eaglets keeper Uzoho was called into action again by his compatriot Kayode who fired a long-range shot that was saved.

Six minutes after the restart, Lucas Perez restored parity for Deportivo La Coruna after Jonas Ramalho pulled down the on-loan Arsenal forward in the box.

In the 82nd minute, Uzoho made a commanding save from a cross off the boots of Douglas Soares and he launched a quick counter-attack from his half. The young Nigerian made a fine save off a deflected shot late on to keep the score at 2-1

Deportivo La Coruna is 16th in the Spanish La Liga Santander table with eight points from nine games and Uzoho is expected to make his third start when Deportivo La Coruna take on Las Palmas next Monday.
