Rohr says Super Eagles want to win for Ikeme

Gernot Rohr has said the Super Eagles wish to again win for goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, just as they did against Cameroon.

But, the Technical Adviser stressed that the Super Eagles have to surprise “a totally different” Zambia on Saturday as they already know a lot about the team.

A win on Saturday guarantees Nigeria’s place at next year’s football showpiece, any other result will see the group go down to the wire; next month.

Rohr said the Super Eagles are driven to win for goalkeeper Ikeme, who was outstanding when both teams first clashed in Ndola a year ago, but he is now on sick bed after he was diagnosed with acute leukemia.

‘The Eagles want to win again for Carl. He’s suffering, that’s not good.

‘We want to give him the chance to be in Russia.’

The Franco-German coach also said he expects to change a few things in his team on Saturday so as to surprise the Zambians, who he reckoned know a lot about the Eagles.

“They know us, so we have to change a few things, be more dangerous so as to surprise them,’ he said.

‘The Zambian team has changed a lot with young players from their U20s, they are a different team from the one we beat in Ndola.

‘They have to win to stand any chance, while a draw could even be enough for us, but we want to win this game,’ the Eagles gaffer said.
