20 Super Eagles’ players already in camp as Onazi and Akpeyi arrives Uyo

Super Eagles at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Tuesday evening have moved up to twenty, as three more players have linked up with the team at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo.

The latest crop of Super Eagles players to join the squad are goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, Trabzonspor midfielder Eddy Onazi, and Standard Liege star Uche Agbo.
Five players named to the 23-man Super Eagles’ roster – Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes FC), Ola Aina (Chelsea), Victor Moses (Chelsea), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) and Moses Simon (Gent) – have not yet reported for international duty as at 1600 hours.
Onazi is confident that the Super Eagles will book their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia with one game to spare by beating Zambia on Saturday.
The Super Eagles assistant skipper told the Nigerian Federation: ”’We will give all it takes as far as football is concerned. We will play like everything depends on us and pray like everything depends on God.

”We will not be distracted. We will get our three points on Saturday”.

Meanwhile, South African-based striker Brian Mwila will miss Zambia’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday due to a recurring injury.

Media reports in the country reveal that the striker will not face the Super Eagles in their penultimate Group B qualifier away.

The Chipolopolo striker netted a brace in their 3-1 win over the Desert Warriors of Algeria at Heroes Stadium on September 2 where he sustained the same injury.

According to the team doctor George Magwende, Belgium-based Emmanuel Banda had also been ruled out due to injury.

“Brian (Mwila) will not be part of the team as he had a recurrence of the injury he suffered during the Algeria game. It is best to give him time to fully recover,” he said to FAZFootball.

Furthermore, coach Wedson Nyirenda has since replaced Mwila and Banda with Power Dynamos forward Alex Ng’onga and Zesco United’s John Ching’andu.

The 2012 African champions are in Accra, Ghana since Sunday where they will set up a training base ahead of their encounter against in Uyo.
