Two players named to the Super Eagles standby list will partake in the national team’s first full training session at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
2017 WAFU Cup of Nations stars Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Afeez Aremu teamed up with the Super Eagles at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort on Monday, bringing the number of players in camp to seventeen.
”This is a great opportunity for me to train with the main Super Eagles, at least I am going to learn something from each and every one of them,” said Aremu to reporters.
The invited players named on the 23-man roster still being expected as at last night are Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United), Uche Agbo (Standard Liege), Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes), Ola Aina ( Hull), Eddy Onazi (Trabzonspor), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) Moses Simon (Gent) and Victor Moses (Chelsea).
Nigeria can qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia if they beat Zambia on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Changchun Yatai F.C. striker Odion Ighalo has emphasized that he will make sure the Super Eagles qualify for their sixth World Cup ahead of personal glory when they face off with Zambia on Saturday.
The former Watford man was one of the shining lights in Nigeria’s games against Cameroon in September.
Ighalo was on target in the 4-0 rout of the African champions on matchday three and played through the pain barrier in Yaounde after picking up an injury in Uyo.
”China is fine. First and foremost the game against Zambia is about teamwork,” Ighalo told reporters.
”We pray to win the game, the most important thing is to win the game on Saturday. It is not about personal glory.”
Ighalo bagged an assist in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Cameroon on September 4 when he teed up Moses Simon in the 30th minute.
The ex-Flying Eagles skipper is enjoying a fine season with Changchun Yatai, netting 12 goals from 24 appearances.
