Nigeria will take on Ghana in the final of the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations at Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 24.
In this article we take a look at who the key players will be for the Eagles on match day.
Ikechukwu Ezenwa: The shot-stopper has kept four clean sheets at this tournament and was Man of the Match in the playoff game against Sierra Leone.
He has risen to the occasion for Nigeria whenever their defence has been breached and his meanness in goal has ensured the Super Eagles are yet to concede a goal in four games of the competition.
Moses Okoro: The right-back has been solid in defence and has the knack of scoring important goals.
In their play-off stage against Sierra Leone he delivered a sumptuous free-kick that booked Nigeria’s ticket to the group stage of the competition.
He also gets forward in attack to assist with crosses from the right.
Olamilekan Adeleye: He is one of the new players introduced by coach Salisu Yusuf and has been a pillar in the centre of defence for the Super Eagles.
He’s yet to lose an aerial duel in the competition and has made it tough for opposing teams to attack Nigeria in the air.
Aremu Afeez: The defensive midfielder has been the chief reason why the Nigerian defence is yet to concede a goal at the tournament.
His combative nature and covering of grounds for the Super Eagles has been top notch so far in the competition.
His understanding with Ifeanyi Ifeanyi makes it stiff for their opponents to win the midfield battle against the Super Eagles.
Peter Moses: The left-winger/attacking midfielder made his Super Eagles debut at this tournament.
He was Man of the Match in the 2-0 win over hosts and defending champions Ghana.
The Plateau United winger is Nigeria’s most influential attacker in the competition with two goals and an assist to his name.
Anthony Okpotu: The marksman has found goal scoring difficult in the competition, but when he had his real chance he took it with class against Ghana.
Okpotu has only one goal to show for in the competition, but his ability to create space and chances for his teammates is a quality that must not be underestimated.
