Nigeria have emerged as one of the biggest climbers in the latest Nike FIBA World Ranking Women in the wake of their FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017 success.
Following on from their memorable night in Bamako when they stormed past Senegal to land the coveted silverware, Nigeria have moved up an eye-catching eight places and into 34th place in the rankings.
Meanwhile, despite no change to the top four spots, including the number one ranked USA who are once again followed by Spain, France and Australia, there is a notable shift for Canada – even if it is just once place.
The overall picture is one which indicates a general stability within the women’s game since 14 of the top 20 ranked nations have retained the same spot they occupied after the publication of the 2016 rankings.
