Nigerian Sprint sensation Kayinsola Ajayi marked his Diamond League debut with a win against a field that also had Seville Oblique, blitzing to a 9.84secs victory in Eugene over the weekend.

It was a statement win and a fascinating way to announce himself on the Pro stage.
Ajayi, who has represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games, World and African Championships, was coming through an impressive NCAA season’s winning circuit.
Speaking about his performance, the 21 year-old said:
“I feel good coming out here after the NCAA season just to do what I do best. I feel great about that.
“I feel good. I’ve been consistent, that was part of my goal; stay on top of the job, stay consistent and come out here do what I’ve got to do and just execute my race,” he continued.
On 12 June, Ajayi ran a wind-assisted 9.72 seconds to win the 100 metres title at the 2026 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
He became the second Nigerian to win the event after Divine Oduduru in 2018.
Comparing the NCAA and expectation at pro level, Ajayi downplayed the pressure.

“It is the same thing to me; winning the NCAA overcoming the pressure in the NCAA that means I can overcome anything at the pro level.”
With the world now on notice of a Nigerian speedster, and who is a genuine contender in the competitive Men’s 100m ranks, Ajayi says he is focused for more showdowns.
“Consistency, practice, I just want to stay healthy, trust my myself and my coach.
“Go back to practice; work and more work and whatever is next I go ahead and do it.”
