Aliou Cissé is set to be appointed as the new head coach of the Angola national team, just a day after stepping down from his role with the Libya.
The agreement will see Cissé take charge of the Palancas Negras until 2030.
The appointment marks a significant statement of intent from Angola, as they turn to one of Africa’s most accomplished and experienced managers to lead a new era.
Cissé built an impressive managerial legacy during his time with Senegal national football team.

He guided Senegal to back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations finals in 2019 and 2021, ultimately securing the country’s first-ever AFCON title in 2021.
In addition, he became the first coach to qualify Senegal for two consecutive FIFA World Cups (2018 and 2022), and led the team to the Round of 16 in Qatar marking Senegal’s first knockout-stage appearance since 2002.
Angola will be hoping Cissé can replicate similar success and transform the fortunes of the national side.
The team endured a disappointing campaign at the 2025 AFCON, crashing out at the group stage and drawing criticism from fans and pundits alike.

Prior to that setback, former head coach Pedro Gonçalves had overseen a positive run, guiding Angola to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON their first appearance at that stage since 2010.
Cissé’s immediate priority will be to secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
The qualifying campaign is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and conclude in November 2026.
