Super Falcons forward, Esther Okoronkwo has signed a contract extension with AFC Toronto, keeping her at the Canadian club until 2027 after a sensational debut campaign in the Northern Super League (NSL).
The club confirmed the deal on Thursday via its official social media platforms, underlining Okoronkwo’s importance to their long-term project.
“Our Super Falcons is here to stay. Esther Okoronkwo’s vision, power, and finishing have been game-changing.”
“We’re excited to have her signed through to 2027.”
Instant Impact in a Historic First Season
Esther Okoronkwo joined AFC Toronto in February 2025, ahead of the club’s inaugural NSL season, and quickly established herself as one of the league’s defining players.
The 29-year-old striker finished the 2025 regular season with eight goals and seven assists, before delivering her most decisive moment in the playoffs, a hat-trick that powered Toronto into the NSL Championship Final.
Her influence went beyond goals.
Okoronkwo ended the regular season as the league’s top assist provider and was deservedly named in the NSL Team of the Season, capping a dominant all-round campaign.

Playoff Push and Narrow Final Defeat
AFC Toronto finished top of the regular-season standings under head coach Marko Milanović, with Okoronkwo playing a central role in their attacking identity.
However, their title charge ultimately fell short in the playoffs, as Toronto suffered a 2–1 defeat to Vancouver Rise FC in the Championship Final.
Despite the disappointment, Okoronkwo’s overall contribution stood out across the season, with the forward registering eight goals and 11 assists in 20 league appearances in all competitions.
WAFCON Glory with Nigeria
Okoronkwo’s club form mirrored her impact on the international stage.
She was a pivotal figure in Nigeria’s 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title-winning campaign, contributing two goals and seven assists across the tournament.
Her crowning moment came in the final against Morocco, where she delivered a goal and two assists in a commanding performance that earned her Player of the Match honours.

Toronto Extend Core of the Squad
Alongside Okoronkwo’s extension, AFC Toronto also confirmed new deals for Zoe Burns, Kaila Novak, and Lauren Rowe, all of whom are now contracted through at least the 2026–27 season.
It is clearly the club’s intention to build continuity and push for sustained success after an impressive debut year.
With Esther Okoronkwo now committed until 2027, AFC Toronto retain one of the league’s most influential attackers as they look to convert early promise into silverware.
After setting the standard in the NSL’s first season, even more will be expected from the Super Falcons star when the 2026 campaign begins and Toronto are clearly backing her to lead the charge.
