Super Eagles skipper, William Troost-Ekong has called for unwavering support as the national team gears up for their crucial continental playoff semifinal against Gabon in Morocco.
Troost-Ekong acknowledged the challenges faced but expressed growing confidence within the squad.
“I think we’ve been under pressure from the start. How we started these qualifiers — that’s the reality,” Ekong said.
“I think the boys are now learning to cope with that pressure. It’s been an exercise for us over the last few months. It’s not been easy.”
Despite the hurdles, Ekong highlighted the positives, particularly the team’s attacking prowess.
“We have amazing players. Everyone is really working, and we’re going to get better.”

The Al-Kholood centre-back stressed the importance of unity and external backing to aid the team.
“We just need everyone else to also believe in us now. We’re already believing in each other,” Ekong declared.
“I think if we have the power and support from the media and the fans, you’re going to see some more special things from this team.”
The defender remains optimistic, asserting that the team is capable of doing more and making Nigeria proud.
The matchup against Gabon will be a stern test, as the Central African side had the most points among all second-placed teams heading into the playoffs.

The last time the two sides met was during the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, where Nigeria won at home and played to a stalemate away in Gabon.
Excluding international friendlies, Nigeria has lost to Gabon only once in five meetings, winning three and drawing one.
The game kicks off on Thursday at 5 p.m. local time in Rabat.
