Nigerian forward, Terem Moffi scored his first goal of the season as Nice beat Auxerre. Jeremie Boga gave Nice the lead in the 3rd minute.
Tom Louchet put in a cross and Boga connected to it properly to put it past Denovan Leon.
Lassine Sinayoko leveled the score for Auxerre in the 22nd minute with a precise right-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom left corner.
Two minutes later, Nice restored their lead courtesy of an own goal from Clement Akpa.
The second half was quiet until the introduction of Moffi in the 73rd minute, who only took three minutes to find the back of the net, sealing the three points for Nice.
The goal meant a lot for Moffi after being out for nearly nine months. The Nigerian striker gave a very good impression of himself in the match — he scored a goal, completed 83% of his passes, and hit the woodwork in the 94th minute.
Meanwhile, his international teammate, Gabriel Osho had a very quiet game.
Osho had 26 accurate passes, gave two passes into the final third, made only one tackle and recovery, and made no clearance at all.
Nice coach Franck Haise was satisfied with his team’s performance, stating the team showed desire to get maximum points:
“It’s a victory that feels good like all victories. The team that was lined up tonight is a team under construction.
“There are many imperfections, but there has also been much more energy and positives than the other way around.
“In our construction period, while waiting to recover more density and depth in the workforce, I find that those who played and those who came back did rather good things.
“We have also made mistakes and we still have a lot of work to do, but I think we have still done good things and we need to rely on these things. We must continue to move forward and find a greater depth of staff.”
He also commended the team’s attitude and mentality:
“You see how we start the game, it’s a good signal. We score a very nice goal. After, I know that there are moments of the game that are more difficult because today there were 6 new players, 2 new players who were starters for the first time and who had 3, 4 or 5 trainings with us.
“I made those choices. And then a defense that has an average age of 19 years. You must be satisfied with the state of mind, energy, good movements. We are obviously very lucid because there are many things on which we must progress.”
Nice will take on Le Havre in their next Ligue 1 match. With Moffi’s performance today, it’s expected that he gets the green light to lead Les Aiglons’ attack.
