Midfielder Francis Onyeka is set to leave Bayer Leverkusen for a season-long loan to recently relegated Bundesliga side VfL Bochum.
The 18-year-old talent is one of the brightest prospects coming through the German youth football ranks.
A product of Leverkusen’s academy, Onyeka joined the club in 2014 and steadily climbed through the youth system.
Despite being called up to the senior team a few times over the past two seasons, he has found first-team opportunities limited, making just one appearance each in the UEFA Champions League and DFB Pokal.
With established stars like Florian Wirtz, Amine Adli, and Jonas Hofmann occupying attacking midfield roles, Onyeka faces stiff competition for minutes.
As a result, the club has opted to loan him out in a bid to accelerate his development with regular senior football.
According to Werkself Xtra, the midfielder is on the verge of completing a loan move to Bochum, who will compete in Germany’s second division next season following their relegation from the Bundesliga.
The move would provide Onyeka with a valuable platform to gain first-team experience in a competitive environment.
Born in Germany to Nigerian parents, Onyeka is eligible to represent both Germany and Nigeria.
While he has played for Germany at U-15 through U-18 levels, he has yet to feature for the senior national team, keeping the door open for a potential switch to the Super Eagles.
A naturally left-footed playmaker, Onyeka is known for his vision, technical ability, and creativity in tight spaces.
Despite sharing a last name, he has no relation to Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka.
This loan spell at Bochum could be a crucial step in Francis Onyeka’s journey toward fulfilling his vast potential at the senior level.
