Nigeria’s U17 WNT, the Flamingos, secured qualification for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup after a determined 0-0 draw against Algeria in Blida on Friday night, advancing 4-0 on aggregate.
Despite battling wintry conditions on the outskirts of Algiers, Bankole Olowookere’s side showed maturity, absorbing pressure from the hosts while creating the better chances in the match.
Though they couldn’t find the net, the Flamingos’ 4-0 first-leg advantage — courtesy of Queen Joseph’s brace, and goals from Zainab Raji and Aishat Animashaun — proved decisive.
The result confirms Nigeria’s place among Africa’s five representatives (including hosts Morocco) at the expanded 24-team FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup, scheduled for 17 October – 5 November 2025 in Morocco.
Since the tournament’s inception in New Zealand in 2008, Nigeria has missed only one edition — Uruguay 2018 — and will be aiming to build on their bronze medal finish at India 2022.
