Olympique Marseille are reportedly keeping tabs on KAA Gent centre-back Jordan Torunarigha, with the Nigerian international set to become a free agent this summer.
The 27-year-old is in the final months of his contract at the Belgian Pro League side and has shown no interest in signing an extension.
As a result, Gent is preparing for his departure, with French giants Marseille among the clubs monitoring his situation, according to Berliner Kurier.
Torunarigha has been a consistent performer since joining Gent from Hertha Berlin in 2022.
Over the past two years, he has racked up 98 league appearances for the Buffalos and played a key role in their domestic and European campaigns.
Interest in Torunarigha is nothing new. Last summer, the defender was strongly linked with a return to the Bundesliga, particularly Hoffenheim, but the move failed to materialise.
Serie A side Torino and Premier League clubs Crystal Palace and Leeds United were also rumoured to be in the mix.
Despite Gent’s efforts to tie him down with a contract extension, the Nigeria international has decided to explore new opportunities, making him a prime target for clubs looking for defensive reinforcements.
Marseille, currently sitting second in Ligue 1, have been solid in attack this season, scoring 62 goals, the second-highest in the league. However, their defence remains a weak spot, having conceded 42 goals, the worst record among the top eight sides.
Torunarigha’s aerial dominance and strong tackling ability could help bolster their backline as they look to challenge for titles next season.
On the international scene, Torunarigha made his Super Eagles debut in October 2023 in a friendly win over Mozambique. He was also part of the squad during the March World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
