Muhamed Tijani stepped up in dramatic fashion to hand Plymouth Argyle a vital 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Home Park on Saturday, as the Championship side continues their push to avoid relegation.
The Striker came off the bench to score the winning goal in the 88th minute, completing a comeback that keeps the club’s survival hopes alive with just a handful of games left in the season.
Sheffield United had taken the lead through Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, who finished smartly just a minute before halftime to put the visitors in front.
Despite controlling much of the possession, Plymouth struggled to break down a resolute Sheffield defence for most of the second half.
However, their persistence paid off in the 81st minute when Ryan Hardie capitalized on a defensive lapse to level the scores. That goal injected fresh belief into the hosts, who continued to push forward with renewed urgency.
Seven minutes later, Tijani, who had been introduced late in the game, found himself in the right place at the right time to slot home the winner after a well-worked attacking move.
His goal sparked wild celebrations at Home Park, as the home fans erupted in relief and joy.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward later took to social media to express his delight, writing on X (formerly Twitter):
“Glad to be on the scoresheet for my team at this crucial stage of the season and grateful to God for the Man of the Match award…Hope alive, we keep pushing @Argyle.”
It was Tijani’s second goal of the season, and perhaps his most important yet, as Plymouth Argyle fight to avoid the drop.
While they remain 24th and bottom of the table, the win gives Plymouth a glimmer of hope as they look to pull off an unlikely escape from relegation in the final games of the season.
