Cyriel Dessers has been nominated for Rangers’ Player of the Month award for March following a string of impactful displays.
The Nigeria international delivered key contributions across domestic and European competitions, scoring two vital goals and providing an assist that proved decisive for the Light Blues.
His performances were spotlighted by his dramatic stoppage-time winner in Rangers’ thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Dundee, an achievement that coincided with his 100th appearance for the club.
Dessers was also instrumental in Rangers’ UEFA Europa League campaign, registering both a goal and an assist in their impressive triumph over Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
With 23 goals and seven assists in 45 appearances across all competitions this season, the 30-year-old has emerged as a central figure in Rangers’ pursuit of silverware.
Despite his overall contribution, Dessers has always faced criticism at times for missing high-quality chances.
Yet, within the club, his value is unquestioned. Rangers assistant coach Neil McCann defended the striker, highlighting his commitment and relentless work ethic.
“Cyriel Dessers will always divide opinion because he will miss chances, but this is the life of a striker,” McCann told the club’s website.
“I was so proud of him after the game (against Dundee) because he didn’t stop pushing and making runs – we need to create chances for him and that is what we are doing.”
Dessers now finds himself in the running for Rangers’ monthly honour, competing alongside teammates Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, Vaclav Cerny, and John Souttar.
The Nigerian’s performances could also prove key as Rangers aim to maintain momentum in Europe and secure qualification for continental football next season.
As the season enters its final stages, Dessers will be hoping to silence doubters, continue scoring, and possibly earn a long-term role as Rangers’ leading striker.
