Victor Osimhen inspired Nigeria to a 2-0 victory against Rwanda in their group C FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifying match on Friday in Kigali.
A first half brace from Osimhen (11′, 45+3′) settled the encounter and put Nigeria back on track in their bid to the reach the World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.
Previously without a win in their qualifying campaign, the Super Eagles had picked up only three points in four matches.
The result against Rwanda; with the outcome of games elsewhere (Zimbabwe 2-2 Benin, South Africa 2-0 Lesotho) puts Nigeria within two points of a playoff spot, but four behind group leaders South Africa.
It was Eric Chelle’s first official game since his appointment as head coach of the Super Eagles and he’d hope the bounce continues on Tuesday when Nigeria hosts Zimbabwe in a matchday 6 fixture.
