Nigeria maintained their spot as Africa’s best women’s football team, holding steady at 36th place globally in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released on Thursday.
Despite their inactivity since December 2024, the nine-time African champions retained their continental dominance.
Their closest African rivals South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia all dropped places in the global rankings.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, the reigning WAFCON champions, slipped four places to 53rd worldwide but remain Africa’s second-best team. Morocco and Zambia also dropped slightly in the rankings.

During the ranking period, Nigeria played three matches:

These results ensured the Falcons held their position, with their competitive form set to be tested at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco from July 25 to August 26, 2025.
Nigeria will aim for a record-extending 10th title, after finishing fourth in the 2022 edition.
