Super Eagles of Nigeria have been tipped to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach Claude Le Roy ahead of the upcoming AFCON.
Le Roy famously led Cameroon to victory at the 1988 AFCON – the last time Morocco hosted the tournament – defeating Nigeria 1-0 in the final.

With an AFCON history that includes 16 medals, Nigeria will once again be among the tournament favorites at the 2025 AFCON, set to take place in Morocco.
Nigeria is also considered one of the strongest contenders after finishing as runners-up in the last tournament, losing 2-1 to Cote d’Ivoire.
“Logically, they (Morocco) are the biggest favourites,” Le Roy told LeSitelnfo. “Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Algeria… Egypt is always a formidable opponent in this competition.
“We must also be careful with South Africa, which continues to progress thanks to a very good coach. Cameroon is also one of the competitors who are always difficult to beat.”
With players like Victor Osimhen, reigning African player of the year, Ademola Lookman, and Alex Iwobi, Nigeria boasts one of the most talented squads in Africa.

Their attacking strength, combined with defensive experience, makes them a major threat.
New head coach Eric Chelle will be tasked with improving the squad’s tactics and mentality to finally claim the title.
Chelle, appointed as Super Eagles head coach in January, is currently touring Europe to meet key players alongside his assistant, Hedi Taboubi.
Last week, the Super Eagles coach met with Moses Simon, Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi.

He is expected to continue his tour this week before returning to Nigeria to assess NPFL matches in preparation for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, at the 2025 AFCON, Nigeria have been drawn into a challenging group alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
They will begin their quest for a fourth African title against Tanzania on December 23 at the Fez Stadium in Fez.
Four days later, they face Tunisia at the same venue, before taking on Uganda’s Cranes on December 30.
