Arsenal forward, Gabriel Jesus is set to undergo surgery on his left knee after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Sunday’s FA Cup third-round loss to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium.
The 27-year-old Brazilian was stretchered off after an awkward landing, marking a significant blow to the Gunners, who are contending with multiple injuries in their squad.
Arsenal’s Official Statement
In a statement, Arsenal confirmed the extent of the injury:
“Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans, and specialist reviews which have confirmed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.”
Jesus, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City for £45 million in July 2022, has been pivotal to the Gunners’ attacking lineup.
With 27 appearances across all competitions this season, he has scored seven goals, including six in his last seven matches.
Mounting Injury Woes
The Brazilian’s injury adds to Arsenal’s growing list of sidelined players, including:
Bukayo Saka
Ben White
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Ethan Nwaneri
Riccardo Calafiori
The absence of these key players poses a challenge as Arsenal aim to close the six-point gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
Upcoming Fixtures
Arsenal face crucial fixtures in the coming weeks, including a highly anticipated north London derby against Tottenham on Wednesday.
The Gunners are also set to return to Champions League action later this month, aiming to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on February 5.
