Super Eagles and Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi delivered a standout performance last night, scoring twice in his side’s narrow 3-2 defeat to West Ham United in the English Premier League.

Despite the loss, Iwobi’s display highlighted his growing influence this season. His goals; his sixth and seventh in the league set a new personal record for his highest tally in a Premier League campaign.

The 28-year-old also hit another milestone, reaching double figures in goal contributions (10+ goals and assists) for the first time in a single season.

This marks his most prolific form to date, and the season is only halfway through.

Iwobi has been an ever-present figure for Fulham this season, starting all 21 league games and becoming a key player in Marco Silva’s squad.

West Ham took an early grip on the game with quick goals from Carlos Soler in the 31st minute and Tomas Soucek two minutes later, giving the Hammers a 2-0 halftime lead.

Iwobi reignited Fulham’s hopes in the 51st minute, pulling one back to make it 2-1.

However, Lucas Paquetá restored West Ham’s two-goal advantage shortly after. Iwobi struck again in the 78th minute, reducing the deficit to 3-2, but the Hammers held on to secure the win Graham Potter’s first victory as their new manager.

Iwobi’s remarkable season now includes seven goals and three assists, a career-best output in the English top-flight. Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey also featured for Fulham, making his 20th league appearance.

Fulham went into the game riding high on a nine-match unbeaten run across all competitions, but their streak was brought to an end by a resilient West Ham side.
