Victor Osimhen continued his remarkable form in the Turkish Süper Lig by providing a crucial assist to help Galatasaray secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Istanbul Basaksehir on Sunday.
The 26-year-old Nigerian forward started the match at the Basaksehir Fatih Terim Stadium, where Galatasaray aimed to strengthen their grip at the top of the league table.
Galatasaray broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when Osimhen set up Baris Yilmaz for the opener, a reward for their dominance in the first half. However, the home side struck back early in the second half, with Polish striker Krzysztof Piątek equalizing in the 53rd minute.
Despite the setback, Galatasaray pressed forward. Yilmaz, having already found the net once, restored his team’s lead just six minutes later with his second goal of the game, making it 2-1 in the 59th minute.
Osimhen and Yilmaz had additional opportunities to extend the lead but were unable to capitalize. The Nigerian striker was eventually substituted in the 89th minute as Galatasaray held on for a crucial three points.
This performance marked Osimhen’s 13th league appearance of the season, bringing his tally to an impressive 10 goals and 4 assists. His contributions have been pivotal in pushing Galatasaray to 50 points, giving them an 11-point lead over second-placed Fenerbahce as they march toward the title.
Galatasaray’s latest win not only underscores their dominance but also highlights Osimhen’s significant role in their quest for glory this season.
