Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, are sharpening their skills at the prestigious OMTEX Cricket Institute in India in preparation for the 2025 ICC Women’s U-19 Cricket World Cup, slated for January 18 to February 2 in Malaysia.

The 16-nation tournament will see Nigeria square off against global cricket heavyweights, with their first game against Samoa scheduled for January 18.

Mixed Results in Tune-Up Matches

The Junior Yellow Greens have participated in three warm-up matches against the OMTEX U-19 team, claiming a morale-boosting five-wicket victory in their first encounter.

Nigeria chased down OMTEX’s total of 103 runs in 16.2 overs, posting 104 for five.

However, the Indian side retaliated in subsequent matches, winning by 55 runs on Wednesday and securing a nine-wicket victory on Thursday.

Coach’s Confidence in Team Growth

Despite mixed results, Nigeria’s coach, Sarah Bhakita, expressed satisfaction with the team’s progress during the training tour.

“It’s really a pleasure coming here, and we have had great sessions in batting and other drills with the players,” Bhakita said via OMTEX’s Instagram handle.

Warm-Up Matches and World Cup Fixtures

After concluding their India tour, the Nigerian team will play two crucial warm-up games against Pakistan on January 13 and Scotland on January 15.

In the tournament proper, Nigeria’s group-stage opponents include Samoa (January 18), Test nation New Zealand (January 20), and South Africa (January 22).

This is Nigeria’s second appearance at the ICC Women’s U-19 Cricket World Cup, with the team aiming to make a strong impression on the global stage.
