Nigeria Cricket Eyes Top 25 World Ranking in 2025 – NCF President Akpata

President of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Uyi Akpata, has set ambitious goals for Nigerian cricket in 2025, targeting a rise in the global rankings and a stellar performance at the Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

Apkata revealed that the men’s national team, currently ranked 37th globally, aims to break into the top 25, a milestone he believes is within reach if the team remains consistent and competitive.

“In 2024, we decided that, after a lot of things around development, it was time to grow our performance. I started with a bronze-winning team,” Akpata said.

“Our national male team is now the 75th in the world, meaning that if they are competitive and consistent, then we can beat the challenge. However, we have new targets.”

“The new target is that the medal range should be the top 25 companies that are showcasing and representing what cricket is all about.”

The NCF president also praised the women’s team, which recently qualified for the T20 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia, urging them to make the country proud on the global stage.

“I know the accolades I’ve received since people have just been hearing that you’ve qualified for this world cup,” he said.

“I just regret the way you’ve done it, in terms of your heart, ability, and whatever you’ve been doing. Just continue to deliver on that.”

With these lofty goals, Akpata remains optimistic about Nigerian cricket achieving greater international success in the coming year.
