Stand-in head coach Daniel Ogunmodede has dismissed concerns about the CHAN Eagles’ striking ability as they gear up for the second-leg CHAN qualifier against Ghana.
The decisive clash will take place at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where the winner will secure a ticket to the 2024 African Nations Championship finals, scheduled for February 2025 across Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
With the first leg ending in a goalless draw in Accra, pressure has mounted on the CHAN Eagles to deliver in front of home fans.
However, Ogunmodede remains unshaken, assuring fans that his team will find the back of the net when it matters most.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Ogunmodede addressed questions about the perceived lack of finishers in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL and its impact on the CHAN team’s performance.
“We played just a match which is an away game,” Ogunmodede stated.
“We created chances in the first leg, but we couldn’t convert. It’s not enough to judge our strikers based on that match.
If we had played 10 consecutive games without scoring, then we could talk about having issues with finishing.”
The Remo Stars coach also expressed full confidence in his players.
“They are going to deliver; they will score goals. You want goals? They are going to score,” he said with conviction.
The match against Ghana’s Black Galaxies promises to be a fiery encounter as both teams battle for regional pride and a place in the CHAN finals.
All eyes will be on Uyo as the CHAN Eagles aim to overcome their perennial rivals and book their ticket to the tournament.
