Super Eagles stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi played pivotal roles as Nottingham Forest edged Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at the City Ground on Thursday in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest, riding high after recent victories over Manchester United and Aston Villa, continued their impressive form with a hard-fought win against Spurs.

Defender Ola Aina was instrumental, featuring for the full 90 minutes and delivering a composed performance at the back.

The Nigerian international, making his 18th appearance of the season, has scored twice and picked up two yellow cards in what has been a solid campaign for him so far.

Meanwhile, Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench in the 87th minute, replacing Chris Wood. The striker nearly made an immediate impact, but his effort went wide just a minute after his introduction.

The decisive moment came in the 28th minute when Anthony Elanga latched onto a perfectly weighted pass from Morgan Gibbs-White to slot home the only goal of the game.

Elanga, who has been in fine form, also scored in previous wins against Aston Villa and Brentford.

Thursday’s victory propels Nottingham Forest to third in the Premier League table, overtaking Arsenal ahead of the Gunners’ game against Ipswich Town.

Tottenham, meanwhile, remain in 11th place, now 10 points adrift of the top four.
