Former Super Eagles head coach José Peseiro has expressed confidence in Fisayo Dele-Bashiru’s ability to establish himself as a key player for Serie A side Lazio.
Dele-Bashiru made the switch from Turkish Super Lig club Hatayspor to Lazio this summer, joining on a loan deal that includes an obligation to buy.
Despite initial struggles in Serie A, the 23-year-old has shown flashes of brilliance on the European stage.
While the midfielder has yet to score in the Italian top flight, his performances in the UEFA Europa League have been noteworthy.
In four appearances for Lazio in the competition, Dele-Bashiru has netted two goals and provided two assists, highlighting his potential to thrive at the highest level.
Peseiro, who closely followed Dele-Bashiru during his time as Super Eagles coach, is optimistic about the midfielder’s adaptation to Italian football.
“His qualities really struck us when we were looking at the players eligible for the call-up,,” Peseiro told Sportitalia.
“He is proving his worth, while still adapting to the demands of Italian football and Lazio. With time he will achieve the consistency required in the game and at the club.”
Despite a slow start in Serie A, Dele-Bashiru’s performances in Europe suggest he has the tools to succeed, and Peseiro believes it’s only a matter of time before he finds his footing in Italy.
