Super Eagles midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru narrowly avoided injury after being involved in a car accident in Rome last Saturday, just two days before Lazio’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan.
The incident occurred in a high-traffic area and was initially kept under wraps, only gaining public attention after reports surfaced on social media.
Dele-Bashiru was driving his Lamborghini when the crash happened, causing significant damage to the vehicle but leaving the player unscathed.
Authorities promptly arrived at the scene and conducted thorough investigations, confirming that there were no injuries or lasting physical concerns for the 22-year-old midfielder.
Following the crash, Dele-Bashiru reached out to his Dutch teammate, Noslin, who arrived to pick him up and drive him home.
Remarkably, the frightening ordeal didn’t seem to affect the player’s focus or fitness.
He returned to training the next morning and was included in Lazio’s squad for the Inter Milan game.
Dele-Bashiru was eventually called into action during the match, replacing Spanish winger Pedro in the 57th minute.
This incident adds to a growing list of car accidents involving Nigerian footballers, with Victor Boniface’s recent crash still fresh in memory.
Boniface, who had just helped Bayer Leverkusen secure a victory against Eintracht Frankfurt, was involved in a car crash hours after the game. Thankfully, he escaped with minor injuries and returned to action shortly afterward.
As concerns rise over the frequency of such incidents, fans will be relieved that both players emerged from these situations without serious harm, continuing to represent their clubs and country at the highest level.
