Maduka Okoye Undergoes Successful Surgery, Vows to Return Stronger

Nigeria and Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has successfully undergone surgery to repair a ligament in his right wrist, following an injury sustained during Udinese’s Serie A clash against Genoa last week.

The 24-year-old, who has been a key figure for the Zebras, revealed that he had played the last two months with the injury before aggravating it.

Okoye took to social media to share his journey and optimism for recovery.

“Surgery is done, Big thanks to Dr. Pigoli and his team!

Played the last 2 months with a broken ligament in my hand, for now, I’ll be supporting the team from the stands, recovering and working hard for a comeback in top form!
See you soon,” he wrote on X.

The goalkeeper is set to begin his rehabilitation process in the coming days.

Recovery from wrist ligament surgery typically takes at least six months, which means Okoye’s return to action may not happen until mid-2025.

Okoye joined Udinese from Watford and has quickly established himself as an important player for the club.

Since December 2023, he has featured in 36 of their 37 matches across all competitions, missing only one game.

This season, he has made 14 league appearances, showcasing his consistency and reliability.

His absence was evident during Udinese’s recent 2-1 victory over Monza, but the focus now is on his recovery and eventual return.

Unfortunately, Okoye is expected to miss a significant portion of Udinese’s ongoing campaign as well as crucial international fixtures for Nigeria.

Despite this setback, the German-born goalkeeper remains determined to bounce back stronger, with his sights set on regaining top form upon his return.
