Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has confirmed that the former two-time heavyweight champion will return to the ring in 2025.
Following a crushing defeat to Daniel Dubois in March, Joshua, who turned 35 in October, is determined to continue his boxing journey, dismissing any rumors of retirement.
Hearn made it clear that Joshua remains fully committed to the sport, emphasizing the fighter’s passion for the ring.
“Anthony loves boxing; he’d fight forever if he could,” Hearn said.
Joshua entered 2023 on a strong note, winning four consecutive fights and looking like a contender for heavyweight supremacy. However, his loss to Dubois was a significant setback, forcing the British-Nigerian fighter to re-evaluate his approach to the sport.
Hearn acknowledged that Joshua, after such an intense period of fighting, needs time to recover both mentally and physically.
“After fighting four times in less than a year, Anthony needs to recharge,” Hearn explained.
“He’ll resume camp in January 2025, which sets him up perfectly for an April or May return to action.”
Unlike his previous comeback, where Joshua fought lower-tier opponents like Jermaine Franklin after two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, this time Hearn insists Joshua will jump straight into major fights.
“At this stage in his career, Anthony doesn’t need warm-ups,” Hearn said. “He’s going straight in. There’s no appeal in smaller fights; it’s about making the big ones happen.”
Joshua’s return hinges on the availability of Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois, with both men involved in upcoming title defenses that could shape Joshua’s next steps.
Regardless of the setbacks, Joshua’s status as one of boxing’s biggest stars ensures his place in future high-profile matchups, with massive pay-per-view events sure to follow.
As for his comeback, it’s clear Joshua isn’t backing down from the challenge, and the heavyweight division is eagerly awaiting his next move.
