Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped eight places in the latest FIFA men’s rankings, falling from 36th to 44th in the world.
The update, released Thursday on FIFA’s official website, also saw the team slip from fourth to fifth in Africa.
Morocco remains the top-ranked team on the continent and sits 14th globally while Senegal follows closely, ranked 17th in the world and second in Africa.
Egypt holds third place in Africa and 33rd globally.
Algeria takes the fourth spot in Africa, standing at 37th worldwide and Nigeria now rounds out the top five in Africa, reflecting a significant drop.
What Went Wrong?
The Super Eagles’ decline is linked to recent poor performances in the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
They salvaged a 1-1 draw against Benin Republic in Abidjan but suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Rwanda in Uyo, surrendering a 1-0 lead.
Global Rankings
World champions Argentina continue to lead the global standings, followed by France in second and Spain in third.
England and Brazil complete the top five, while Portugal and Netherlands hold sixth and seventh positions respectively.
Next Update:
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking will be published on December 19, 2024.
