Former Nigeria international Emeka Ezeugo has refuted reports claiming he called for some current Super Eagles players to be permanently excluded from the team.
The rumours surfaced last week when certain blogs alleged that Ezeugo, a former midfielder and coach, had criticized the performance of some players and suggested they no longer deserved call-ups.
However, speaking to Brila.net, Ezeugo dismissed the claims, clarifying that he has not been following the Super Eagles closely in recent years due to his disappointment with the team.
“Those were not my comments,” Ezeugo stated. “I didn’t even watch the match. I don’t watch Nigeria Super Eagles matches anymore since our national team became Super Vultures.”
Ezeugo also emphasized that it was impossible for him to comment on players in a match he didn’t watch.
“I didn’t say this person shouldn’t be invited. In a match that I didn’t watch, it is not possible.”
The former Abia Warriors coach lamented the decline of the national team’s standards, stating:
“I know what the Super Eagles are supposed to be, and that’s not what we’ve had for more than 25 years.”
Ezeugo’s remarks highlight his dissatisfaction with the current state of Nigerian football, but he firmly denied making any specific comments about dropping players from the national team.
