Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive run of form, scoring in Genk’s dominant 3-0 win over Sporting Charleroi in the Jupiler Pro League on Saturday.
After a goalless first half, Genk broke the deadlock in the 77th minute, with Arokodare finding the net from a perfectly delivered assist by Patrik Hrošovský.
Just six minutes later, Jarne Steuckers doubled the lead, extending Genk’s control over the game.
In the final minute of the match, substitute Noah Adedeji-Sternberg, also of Nigerian descent, completed the 3-0 rout with a composed finish, capping off a superb team display.
Arokodare’s clinical strike adds to his growing reputation as one of the standout Nigerian forwards this season.
With nine goals and three assists in 14 league appearances, he is rapidly becoming a top contender for the Belgian league’s Golden Boot.
The 24-year-old forward, who was overlooked from Nigeria’s squad for the recent 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda, led the attack and played a key role in securing the three points for Genk
Reflecting on the match, Arokodare said, “This victory feels good, but it was not an easy match. Especially in the first half, we had a hard time.”
“We kept believing and rewarded ourselves. The dance during the celebration is one from the old box. Especially on my birthday, it tastes extra sweet to score and also help the team.
We have to remember the positive elements and take them with us to the derby next week.”
Genk’s victory solidified their position at the top of the Jupiler Pro League, with 34 points from 15 matches, six points clear of second-placed Club Brugge.
